The manufacturing plant of KAL is located at Athani near
International Airport, Kochi. This Strategic
location facilities the easy procurement and timely
utilization of fresh herbs. This plant is GMP
(Good Manufacturing Practices) certified and has all
modern manufacturing facilities to manufacture all types
of ayurvedic presentations both classical and ethical,
most hygienically and in strict adherence to the
prescribed norms. This coupled with the meticulous
selection of raw materials provides genuineness and
efficacy to all products of KAL The division now
produces over 300 classical ayurvedic medicines and 30
ethical products developed by the R & D Department
Kerala Ayurveda Limited.
Herbs Farming
R & D Division of KAL has a prestigious herbal garden, which is actually a gene pool with more than 1200 species of rare and endangered medicinal plants, collected by conducting extensive surveys. These efforts also included certain hitherto unexplored tribal pockets, which are treasure groves of herbal wealth.
Herbal Garden and a herbarium of these collected plants serve as a center of excellence to Ayurveda doctors, students and research scholars of various faculties and provide awareness to the public about our rich herbal heritage. The nursery attached to the herbal garden is a nodal agency, engaged in the propagation and dissemination of quality planting materials to farmers with a buy back arrangement to inculcate the habit of medicinal farming among them.
Plant introduction, acclimatization and commercial cultivation of selected varieties are targeted to have better quality raw materials to our products with increased biomass and active ingredients. Researches on these lines are an on going process and have standardized agro-technology for 20 high value medicinal crops. Biochemical evaluation of these cultivated species is continuing to fix the optimum period of harvest and to evolve complete quality protocols.
