It started as a small annoyance. Every morning, even after my usual routine of brushing, flossing, and rinsing with a branded mouthwash, I’d notice a faint bad taste in my mouth. I would feel self-conscious about my breath as the day wore on. Despite trying various tricks with gums and mouth-freshening products, the issue lingered.
Then, one evening as I was browsing online, I stumbled upon something unexpected—oil pulling! The practice, as I learnt, involves swishing oil in your mouth for a few minutes. It sounded strange. I’d never really thought of oil as a part of any oral hygiene routine.
People swore by it, claiming that Oil-Pulling did everything from freshening breath to preventing tooth decay and even gum diseases.
Journey to a breath of fresh air.
So the next morning, I decided to give it a try. Although I was a bit sceptical, I poured a spoonful of Virgin Coconut Oil, which I had at home, held it in my mouth and began to swish. I won’t lie- the first few seconds felt odd, but soon enough, I settled into the rhythm, letting the oil move around in my mouth. Later on, I discovered a wonderful formulation that works well for everyday Oil pulling, Kerala Ayurveda’s Arimedadi Thailam.
Within a week of oil pulling, I began to notice the change. My mouth felt fresher even hours after brushing, and that lingering taste I used to notice before was also gone. I even found myself breathing a bit more easily as though my sinuses were clearer.
If our stories match…Oil pulling may be all that you need !
Oil-Pulling : An open letter of information for you!
Oil-pulling is an ancient dental technique of which the modern mouthwashes are successors of!
In Ayurveda, it's called "Kabala," which means holding and moving a liquid herbal preparation in your mouth for ten to fifteen minutes to expel the toxins. And in oil-pulling, we use herbal oils instead of herbal decoctions.
'But how does it work?'
It was the first question I had in my mind too.
I noticed that in oil-pulling while I swished and the more saliva it got mixed with, the easier it got to move the oil in my mouth. It swept easily in between the tooth and tongue drawing out toxins from my entire mouth. I saw the oil then turning thick and coloured liquid as time passed by. Meaning.. It was saturated with dirt and toxins in the mouth and it was time for me to spit it out.

Step 1:
Oil-Pulling is done as the first step when you wake up in the morning. So after getting up, after brushing your teeth preferably with Herbal dental tooth powders, take 15 ml of Kerala Ayurveda’s Arimedadi thailam and hold it inside your mouth.
Step 2:
Swish the oil thoroughly inside your mouth. Let it seep in between your teeth and over your gums similar to how you do it with a mouth wash. Simply hold the oil in your mouth and move it all around your oral cavity for 15 minutes( beginners can start with 15 minutes). Also DO NOT swallow. You may use your jaw or your tongue as per your comfort to move the oil around.
Step 3:
Initially, the oil will appear cloudy or milky, but as you continue oil pulling, it will gradually turn yellowish, indicating that it has drawn out impurities. You can spit out the contents completely. There is no need to brush with your ordinary toothpaste before or after Oil pulling. But make sure you brush with Herbal Dental powders before you start doing Oil pulling.
Important Tip for Beginners:
If you’re new to oil pulling, the oil might not change much in appearance at first. Over time, as you continue the practice, you’ll notice the oil turning yellowish and more colloidal in texture as you spit it out.You may start off with Virgin Coconut Oil and later switch to Arimedadi oil for daily use.
Breaking new grounds with oil-pulling can turn out to be the best thing you ever adapted to in life.
I started with one spoonful of oil while I went for my morning walk which I would continue to swish till I returned before I would spit it out. On days when I could not afford to go on a walk, I would do it while I took a shower or while I got ready for the office or even when I cooked my breakfast. I even had a day where I had to tuck it up while doing my hair!
So, the next time when you feel like your routine is falling short, reach for that bottle of Kerala Ayurveda’s Virgin coconut oil. You might just find the simple solution you’ve been searching for.! So just reach out and embrace the process for a breath of fresh air!
